Forbes Travel Guide has revealed the winners of the 2018 Star Awards, an annual list of the world’s best luxurious hotels, restaurants and spas. This year’s list evaluates over 1,600 properties all over the world, making it the travel guide’s largest one yet. In New Mexico, five businesses in the hospitality sector have been named 2018 Star Award winners, all based in Santa Fe.
Three hotels, one restaurant and one spa in Santa Fe have received four-star ratings on the 2018 Star Award Winners list. These winners are the Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe, The Inn of the Five Graces, Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi, the restaurant Geronimo and the Spa at Rancho Encantado.
Forbes Travel Guide evaluates businesses using a proprietary algorithm that weighs service quality at 75 percent and facility quality at 25 percent. Properties can receive three ratings: Five Star, Four Star or Recommended. According to Forbes Travel Guide, anonymous inspectors base ratings on up to 900 objective criteria. The original Five Star rating system was created in 1958, when the company was known as Mobil Travel Guide.
New Mexico has received high-profile recognitions for its hospitality industry in the past. Several hotels in the Land of Enchantment have scored spots on the annual Four Diamond lists by AAA.
The state’s leisure and hospitality industry brought 4,000 new jobs to New Mexico in 2017, with hotel occupancy rates increasing by 3 percent.
As New Mexico reaches record-breaking tourism rates, well known travel sites like TripAdvisor and Tripping.com have drawn tourist attention to New Mexico towns. Tourism-related spending in New Mexico has increased by more than $780 million since 2011, according to the New Mexico Tourism Department’s 2016 Annual Report.
